Should You Wear Leggings as Pants? Priyanka Chopra Weighs In

Joseph Altuzarra, the master of sensible shirtdresses and pencil skirts cut with dangerously sexy thigh-high slits, has given us yet another wonderfully contrast-happy collection to rave about. For spring 2017, the designer took a youthful, Chiquita-esque turn with cutesy sequin-embroidered cherries, pineapples, lemons, and blueberries, but anchored the fruit medley with python, tailored blazers, and restricting pencils. “I wanted the collection to feel happy, vibrant, and erotically charged,” read the brand’s show notes.

But the best thing to come out of the show? Celebrity endorsement from Priyanka Chopra (our August cover girl!), who sat front row (outfitted in a bubblegum pink rib-knit dress, courtesy of Altuzarra, of course) and is already a fan of next spring’s offering. “I thought it was beautiful—it was feminine and pretty,” she enthuses after the show. “I love the florals, and I especially love the cherry-print stockings. And I also loved the little chiffon dresses—so flirty and lovely.”

Eventually, talk of next season’s fashion fell back to present-day trends, which of course, ended with her very honest (read: refreshing) opinion on four of the most popular street-style trends we’ve seen around:

Wearing leggings as pants: “I like leggings, as long as they’re not weird and crotchet-y.”

Treating your bra as a shirt: “No. I’m a little shy, and I’d prefer a shirt. I think a bra should be kept hidden, layered underneath.”

Having an oversized shirt double as a dress: “Love it—as long as I have a belt to cinch.”

Eschewing bras altogether: “If it’s in the vicinity of my bedroom, then yes—or, as long as people don’t know.”

See the Best Looks from the Loewe Fall 2017 Runway Show

The Loewe 2017 Fall runway show was a display of brilliant manipulation, incorporating varied textures, colors, and forms to result in pieces that were femininely edgy. Floor length dresses were cut and deconstructed, flirty fabrics like satin were mixed with masculine corduroy, and multiple fabrics merged into single pieces to create new life to statment pieces. Below, our favorite looks from the show.

See the Hottest Photos from Backstage at the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

The 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is upon us, and while the runway vibe is sexy as ever, the atmosphere backstage is far more relaxed. “This is the one time of the year that we actually got to hang out,” Alessandra Ambrosio told Beauterage of spending time with her fellow Angels.

“We had four days to hang out and it really feels like a girls’ trip or when you’re in college with your friends. There are no boys around. It’s only girls and we can have fun and not worry about anything else.”

Between getting primped together and taking selfies backstage, Stella Maxwell totally agrees. “I think everyone’s really excited. I can see the smiles on everyone’s faces. We’re all like gossiping,” she told Beauterage. “It’s nice to just hang out with our friends.”

While in years past the girls all sported similar-length waves, this year they’re wearing their natural hair, and Kendall Jenner is so on board. “The cool thing about this show is that they wanted everyone to feel really good and they didn’t mind the girls looking more different than each other than they did in previous years,” Jenner said. “It’s cool. It adds a new twist to it.”

While she was excited about the new hairstyles, she was anxious about wearing her lingerie. “I’m so excited, and nervous. Last year I had two looks that were very covered in certain spots, but this year I have one look that is kind of covered and one that is pretty exposed so I’m a little nervous about that!” Jenner told us.

To that, sixteen-time VS Fashion Show vet Ambrosio has some advice: “Enjoy, it goes really fast. In the blink of an eye it’s over,” she said.

Jessica Alba Got Faux Freckles at Tory Burch—Plus 6 Other Things to Know About the Show

New York Fashion Week starts early and ends late, and if you don’t have the stamina (or an IV drip of caffeine), then the struggle can get real pretty quickly. But not even the most staunchly morning-averse night owl would miss Tory Burch’s 9 a.m. show—one of the earliest on the calendar. Happy and vibrant, her shows never fail to deliver saturated colors and bold prints, making it arguably one of the best ways to start the day. Factor in a cool new location and an even cooler front row, and there’s no question about it. Keep reading to find out everything that happened at Tory Burch’s spring 2017 show.

1. After seasons of staging her shows at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, the designer switched things up and went for the brand sparkling new Whitney Museum location that opened last year in the Meatpacking District.

2. Tory Burch outfitted the models in matching Tory Sport track suits during prep time.

3. Honest Beauty makeup was used to give models a natural glow, complete with faux freckles, which were drawn on with the brand’s True Velvet Eyeliner in Cocoa—a look that Jessica Alba also had done backstage prior to the show. “Look,” she told Beauterage Fashion Director Melissa Rubini in the front row. “Freckles!”

Who wouldn’t love a little touch-up before the show? @honest_beauty’s @jessicaalba joined all the models backstage at @toryburch’s #SS17 show, where makeup artist @diane.kendal used the brand’s True Velvet Eyeliner in Cocoa to give the beauties faux freckles. ✨💄🌸 #NYFW

4. Beyoncé’s protégés Chloe and Halle Bailey (aka the coolest girls around) also took their seats in the front row, both clad in Tory Sport gear.

5. The show opened with “Massachusetts” by the Bee Gees, but quickly segued into Beyoncé, at which point, Chloe and Halle started dancing in their seats. “The playlist was amazing—everything was poppin’,” Chloe said afterwards, while Halle began to sing: “They don’t love you like I do.”

6. Taylor Hill and Hailey Baldwin were among the big-name models cast in the show.

7. The spring 2017 looks included darling preppy cardigans, sweeping split-seamed pants, and a fun color palette of kelly green, bubblegum pink, and bright orange. “The collection was absolutely amazing—I love the colors she uses, the oranges were so beautiful, it [was] fun and flirty, and different at the same time, which I love,” Chloe said. And their favorite look? “The two-piece that was orange,” they both said simultaneously, laughing.

How to Wear the Pantone Color of 2017

Aaaaand the color of 2017 is Greenery! For its annual highly anticipated Color of the Year announcement, Pantone unveiled the zesty yellowy-green shade (#15-0343) in the hopes to refresh, reinvent, and reinvigorate the spirit as we ring in the new year. It’s the color of nature, which means by surrounding yourself with it, you’ll feel one with nature—perfect for those who aren’t really the outdoorsy type.

“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment,” says Leatrice Wiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

Without further ado! We are proud to reveal the PANTONE #ColoroftheYear2017. Click the link in our bio to learn more about how this year’s choice reflects what’s happening in our world.

From a fashion POV, a handful of designers, like Michael Kors, Max Mara, and Mary Katrantzou (pictured at top, from left to right), had the foresight to thread the Greenery shade (a cross between lime and peridot) throughout their spring 2017 collections. 7 Badass Looks Rihanna Should Wear from Adam Selman’s Collection

When it comes to designers and their muses, there’s just no other OTP (that’s internet-speak for one true pairing, btw) like Rihanna and Adam Selman. Let’s flashback to the moment of all moments: Rihanna blessing us by arriving at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards in a sheer fishnet Adam Selman creation, hand-embellished with more than 216,000 Swarovski crystals—but I mean, how could we ever forget?

Now flash forward to 2017 and Selman’s ready-to-wear show, in which denim and disco dominated the runway. Also roses. Lots and lots of roses. So it goes without saying (but we just can’t help ourselves), we need Rihanna in more Adam Selman. We need it like fish need water! Like Earth needs the Sun! Like Kanye needs Kanye.

From relaxed suits to more glitzy-sheer moments, here are the Adam Selman looks we dream of seeing Rihanna in.

The 11 Most Outrageous Looks from Men’s Fashion Week

Honestly, after Rick Owens sent down NSFW looks (as in: full-frontal nudity) during Men’s Fashion Week three seasons ago, we can safely say that it takes a lot to shock us now. When it comes to menswear, there’s this stigma that it’s somehow less creative or inventive compared with women’s. And while yes, there are fewer styles and fewer colors that some consumers are willing to experiment with, today’s gender-fluid mindset has given designers the creative fuel to stretch their imaginations and break boundaries, norms, and aforementioned stigmas.

Menswear isn’t just a suit and tie anymore. Judging from the spring 2017 collections at Men’s Fashion Week, it can mean plasticky capes worn with nothing but a thorny crown and boxers, jeggings layered with lots of denim, or very Prince-like purple damask separates. Even though no one went crotch-less this season (though Owens did up the shock factor with a pair of billowing high-waist pants—and nothing else), there were some great out-there moments that challenge menswear as we know it.

From super-sheer, nearly nude tanks to fuchsia utilitarian jumpsuits, see the most outrageous looks from the men’s runways.

The Dreamiest, Must-See Wedding Dresses from Fall 2016 Couture Fashion Week

The fall/winter 2016 shows at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week has drawn to a close, and as it does every season, it’s left behind dreams of irresistibly divine creations in its wake. For brides-to-be, those are dreams of potential wedding dresses for that inevitable walk down the aisle.

It’s customary for couturiers to close their shows with the bride, and there are still a few today who still follow tradition, including Karl Lagerfeld whose Chanel Couture bride continues to be the highlight of the show (the one from the fall 2014 couture collection was the source of inspiration for the Manus x Machina exhibit at the Met). For this season, he reimagined her in a bustier and pants cut from lace, tulle, and satin encrusted with strands of pink-and-white wool, and a jacket and train embroidered with feathers. Elie Saab closes with the bride, as does Zuhair Murad whose couture bridal ball gown from this season took an entire month and two shifts of 30 embroiderers to create.

Others, however, may not have a bride, but that doesn’t mean their collections aren’t rife with excellent bridal style inspo. From Giambattista Valli’s incredible frothy tulle masterpiece (pictured above) to Jean Paul Gaultier’s outrageous woodland bridal fairy, scroll through to see the most memorable wedding dresses to have come out of Couture Fashion Week.

Inside the Victoria’s Secret Models’ Pre-Show Workouts

We went backstage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris to catch up with some of our favorite VS models, who dished on everything from the weirdest item they packed, to their insane, high-intensity, pre-show workout routines. After all, when preparing for a show where you show a lot of skin, you want to make sure what you’re showing is in tip-top shape.

Alessandra Ambrosio is walking in her 16th show this year, and is clearly a pro at getting prepared for the big day. “I do a lot of yoga through the year but a friend of mine told me to try Tracy Anderson and I went to the studio and I fell in love with it because it’s all about music,” she revealed. “I love music and it was all about dancing and I felt like a teenager dancing … it brings me back to my clubbing days and you get to listen to music and sweat and be healthy.” While the workout may sound fun, Ambrosio told us not to underestimate its intensity: “Its so hard, its on another level. It’s definitely the hardest workout I’ve ever done in my life.”

Stella Maxwell, too, works hard to look not just thin, but fit, lean, and healthy for the show. “I train with my personal trainer most days and just try to eat really clean. It’s for strength. I don’t do that much cardio because I’m already so thin, so my goal isn’t to lose weight. it’s to gain lean muscle.”

Ambrosio even brought some exercise equipment with her to the City of Light, “Pilates rings for the legs,” she told Beauterage, as well as, “ankle weights, which Tracy let me take from the studio so I get to work out in my room.” Maxwell has also experienced the inner thigh burn thanks to the workout she hates to love, and loves to hate: “All the [exercises] with the bands around the ankles, omg they’re so killer and they’re so great for your ass but they hurt so bad.”
